Intellectual Property Rights

ITA > Intellectual Property Rights

The system of intellectual property (IP) has become more appealing and, in many circumstances, essential for all economic actors due to the growing significance of intangible assets (as a source of competitive advantage for a nation). One of the most important factors in daily company decisions is intellectual property (IP). Nearly every day, new businesses, products, and imaginative ideas hit the market as a result of ongoing human ingenuity and imagination. The Indian government has been making every effort to create a favourable environment by improving infrastructure and introducing policy-level initiatives, which has led to significant changes in IP administration and culture in the nation, even as Indian industry has come to understand the value and advantages of IP creation and protection. More than ten years ago, ITA established a specialised department staffed by professionals and domain

experts after realising the significance of IPR as the primary differentiator for industrial competitiveness.

The IPR branch of ITA provides information, analysis, matchmaking, facilitation, and implementation of IPR-related obligations for institutions, society, government, and industry. The main goal of ITA’s IPR activities is to help Indian industry become a global leader by using and harnessing IP, since the creation of a robust IP ecosystem and a strict and rigorous IPR framework are urgently needed worldwide. The initiative’s main goals are to implement legislation changes, raise awareness, build capacity, provide IPR services, network internationally, and fight the threat of piracy and counterfeiting.

The Andhra Pradesh Technology Development & Promotion Centre (APTDC) is an autonomous organisation that was established in 2000 by ITA in collaboration with the Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) (under the auspices of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and Government of Andhra Pradesh). It serves as a one-stop shop for IPR facilitation services for MSMEs, academia, and entrepreneurs, and it is the nodal agency on GIs in the states of AP and Telangana.

An Intellectual Property Rights Facilitation Centre (IPFC) has been built in Mysore, Indore, and Gandhinagar byITA in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MoMSME) of the Government of India. These IPFCs’ main goal is to “Boost IP Culture,” which will increase the intellectual capital that is essential to the state’s economic growth. These IPFCs are also the nation’s first institutions to offer a range of IPR services, including facilitation of IP protection, information and advisory services, and training.

The ITA Industrial Intellectual Property Award was established in 2015 to recognise Indian firms for their superiority in intellectual property protection on a national and worldwide scale. This award is intended to recognise IP excellence across industry segments and to incentivise organisations to cultivate a culture of intellectual property management and commercialisation.

The Value IPR 2.0 Advanced certification program, which focusses on IP valuation and licensing, was introduced by ITA to further support this aim. In order to improve their capacity to use intellectual property for economic growth and competitive advantage, this program seeks to give participants the abilities and information necessary to appraise and license IP assets in an efficient manner.
