Over the past decade, India’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry has emerged as one of the fastest-growing in the world. The Indian IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sector is categorized into four key segments: IT services, Business Process Management (BPM), software products and engineering services, and hardware.

India has established itself as a global leader in software development and a preferred destination for IT-enabled services. Employing nearly 10 million professionals, the industry has become the world’s largest sourcing hub, accounting for approximately 67% of the US$ 124-130 billion global outsourcing market. A key driver of India’s success in IT services is its cost competitiveness—offering services at prices nearly 3-4 times lower than in the United States, reinforcing its strong position in the global outsourcing market.

India is also the world’s second-largest telecommunications market, with a subscriber base exceeding 1 billion. With progressive government policies and the liberalization of foreign direct investment (FDI) norms, the sector has become one of the fastest-growing and a significant contributor to employment generation. The telecommunications industry, alongside IT, contributes around 3% to India’s GDP and continues to play a vital role in accelerating economic and social development.

Guided by the Government of India’s vision for a Digital India, the country is on a strategic path toward digital transformation, aiming to enhance connectivity and digital access for all citizens. The Confederation of Indian Industry (ITA) is actively working to leverage ICT in fostering a knowledge-based economy, promoting investments, and driving growth through policy advocacy and the accelerated adoption of digital technologies.
